Retirement/Work
To my avid followers, the "Pumps" is still alive and well
after putting in 3 days of work.....Even if they were
part time hours......
I guess when you are in the WORK mode, you work.....
Then you get into the RETIREMENT mode and you take
it easy and establish a new routine for the day.....But
getting back into the WORK mode does really upset
things a little.........
All of a sudden the mind does not know what mode to
be in.....One good thing, the weekend is coming up
and it is back to the RETIREMENT mode......Pumps

Elevators
I have come to the conclusion that the academic world is
full of "stupid" researchers.......Here is the latest piece of
"junk" science that some one's kid's tuition paid for.....
There is some guy in Australia that has concluded, after
a 10 year study, that elevator, and cars, are causing the
Australians to become obese......
Hey "stupid"......The elevator was invented in 1852 and
there have been cars on roads for about 100 years......
How come there were no obese people one hundred
years ago?.....He also claims that "fat" people are a result
of people flocking to the cities to live......Hey "stupid", they
have been doing that since the beginning of recorded
time......Don't tell me Athens and Rome were little rural
towns with only one traffic light......
People are getting obese because they are enjoying their
life, and have a lot of money to buy "bad" food......They
just enjoy eating well......Their weight problem has nothing
to do with either a vertical or horizontal people moving
device.......Pumps

"Olde Hippies"
The Internet has provided me with a quotation, of
unknown origin....."The 'olde hippies' second childhood
is one of the worst things to happen to America"......
I have to feel sorry for some of these aging people,
who are younger than I.......They have spent their
entire lives in a quest to change humanity towards
their view of thinking and now, in there latter years,
realize that they have failed.......To some, a life of
total futility........No wonder most of them are
"pissed off".......
The result of their "second childhood" will also be a
problem.......For it will leave a "big turd", in the
history books, that a future generation has to
dispose of......Pumps

The Prophecy
Somewhere back during a job interview in 1965, Steve
(my future boss), said, "Once you get into this pump
business, you will never get out of it.".......Little did
I know at the time how true that statement would
be and how it would effect my life......
Between 1965 and 1970, I worked "on" this pump.....
Between 1970 and 1976, I "used" this pump.....
Between 1976 and 1986, I "forgot" this pump.....
Between 1986 and 2004, I worked "on" this pump,
for a second time.........
Well in 2004, I retired.......Now, at the age of 72,
once again, as a favor to a friend, I will work "on"
this pump........Less computer time will be a result,
I suspect......
Here in Jabunyaville, there are 50 doctors who will
work on a heart pump......But only 3 who will work
on a paint pump.......Sometimes I wonder if Steve
just knew what a "good job" was?.........Pumps

Rain
Well Jabunyaville has had its "first" taste of rain in
a while.......In the spell of 15 minutes we have had a
total of 0.20 inches, which happens to be the same
amount which has fallen, in total, for the first three
weeks in October......
The entire area around us is on "Water Restriction
Usage".......Car washing, grass watering and other
restrictions are currently in force......
Why do I get the feeling that we will have a lot of
snow this coming winter?......Pumps

Jerusalem
The city of Jerusalem, currently in the country of Israel,
has been claimed by three of the world's major
religions as an important "religious center".......
Jewish, Roman Catholic, and Islam......
If I remember my history correctly, there have been
times when a town was governed by, not one but, a
group of different people and cultures........Berlin and
Vienna come to mind.......
Why do not the governments involved just declare
Jerusalem as a "World" or "Open" city for all to
use and profess their "faith"......This sure would beat
the heck out of killing each other, like was done in
the past......Pumps

Statistics
It seems that everybody today is counting numbers and
creating statistics......For years it was only the statistics
in the sports world that anyone mentioned......Most
home runs, most football yards gained etc.......
What has stuck in my "craw" is the 5 year cancer survival
statistic in the medical field.......Get cancer, live for 5 years,
and you "made it"........In fact my personal surgeon was
enthralled that I "made it" and lived for 5 years.......I guess
I was a "success story"......
Hey Docs, let's start raising the "bar" a little......Get happy
after 10 years.......Let's look at 5 years as a good "band-aid"
job........In case a doctor is interested, year #4 is a bitch.......
Will you make #5?........I would prefer to worry about #9......

The End Of Toleration
An interesting story about a 75 year old woman, who just
had enough - of it, appeared on the Internet today.......
Yes, a lot of us older folk are MAD.......But why?........
It is because for all these past years we have been KIND
and accepted the "facts and problems of life".......However
as you grow older your "toleration" for the BULL seems
to wane.......For some reason, "with the light at the end of
the tunnel" in your face, you want people to be "on time"
and fulfill their "promises"......You want people to respect
you and treat you properly.......
It seems all the younger generation can do to the older ones
is get them MAD........I do not think the "newbies" could
handle a revolt of the "seniors".......Just remember we
KNOW where to hit anything with a hammer, which would
cause the most damage.......(The young'ins have not a
clue, yet)......Pumps

The Back Deck
Well we finally got around to repairing the back deck,
all 10 ft by 12 foot of it.......
While the structural frame has survived some 25 years,
since the house was built, the decking boards did not....
Reason being that the decking was of a cheaper and
lower grade wood.....Surprised it lasted this long.....
Lumber like cans of soup are no longer the same size/
weight that they used to be......A 1" board of lumber
only measures 5/8" these days, down from 3/4".....
And so my 5/4 decking no longer measures 1-1/4"
but now 1"........(Remember when there was a 16oz
can of coffee?....Now it is 11oz.....Same can, just
less content.).......
My friendly handyman will be around tomorrow to
"finish and trim it up".........Those last little things
that carpenters do........Glad to get it done......At least
I will not full through it now when I have to go
out to grill the burgers.......Pumps

In this US Presidential "season" you often here the
phrase "Common Ground".......The Republicans and
the Democrats must reach this holy place of "Common
Ground."......Well there is such a place and everyone
who votes knows of it.........
IT IS TAXATION.......
If a member of any US political party mentions the
word "taxes" he/she becomes an automatic pariah......
Destined to fail in any election bid......
So my friends, when someone, who is running for an
elective office, says they are going to do something,
please ask them where they will get the money from
to fulfill their promise........Pumps

Nobel - Gore
Some 3 days ago, I posted a blog on this site regarding
Mr. Alfred Nobel and his prize.......While this is my
main blog it only has a few devoted followers, and I can

On another minor blog, which I have on a meteorological
weather site, due to a hobby of mine, I expressed my
feeling, again, under the above mentioned title......
Boy, did I hit a nerve......At last count there were over
110 postings to a blog regarding the man who invented
dynamite and an ex-Vice President of the United States....
Pumps.....

A Watched Pot
The last cooking pot that you would think that you
have to watch would be a crockpot or slowcooker......
But you have to......
Many people make the mistake of just dumping all
the ingredients of the recipe into the slowcooker and
then closing the kitchen door behind them......Expecting
that when they reopen the door in 6-8 hours -voila -
a cooked meal........
People fail to remember that a slowcooker is just
another kitchen tool......Just like a wok, double boiler,
or a simple sauce pan........Besides a lot of women do
not like to fail in their kitchen efforts......
So crockpot and slowcooker lovers, watch your cooking
fluids.....Sometimes you have to much liquid, potato
flakes, flour and cornstarch will correct that.....And
sometimes you have to little, any liquid of choice will
fix that.......
In my opinion a slowcooker is a good tool on a slow day
when you do not like to stand over a hot stove or oven,
no matter for what time period..........But remember
that even on slow days you have to check your "cooking
tool" every hour or so........Pumps

Mr. Nobel was an inventor, an industrialist and later
in his life a philanthropist.......For some reason he just
hated the accident of finding, what we now call, dynamite..
He saw so many people killed with his "chemical find"
that he established a committee to distribute his
fast wealth to people of the world who made some
effort in preventing people from, using his dynamite
and, killing other people.......
What the heck has Al Gore and Global Warming
have to do with dynamite and people not killing
each other?......What does world peace have to do
with a melting iceberg?........Am I losing something
here?.........
As a side note: Mr. Gore has said that he will donate
his 3/4 of a million dollars of olde Alfred's award
money to the Alliance for Climate Change.......A non-
profit foundation founded by Mr. Gore about a
year ago...........
Don't you get a tax deduction on your USA taxes if
you donate money to a non-profit organization?......
I guess he is just moving the money from his right
hand pants pocket to his left.........Pumps

Instant Weather
Well it looks like Fall weather has finally come to
Jabunyaville......Temperatures - Mon 89F, Tues 95F,
Wed 83F and today Thurs 68F.......It seems the
skies got cloudy, the trees began to change color
all in one day........From a tee shirt to sweater......
Somehow, if you had any at all, "one" can lose faith
in the Global Warming theory.......It is just, everyday
normal, Climate Change (aka Weather Change).......
Guess it is time for the pre-Winter chores.......Got
to put bags of stinky "feed and weed" on the lawn,
close the crawl space vents and check the heating
system........Since it has been a little "dry" around
here for the past few months.....I wonder if there
is any "snow" in the future?........Pumps

Joe Torre
I was in Yankee Stadium when the subway was a nickle and
the deposit on a Coke bottle was 2 cents......My following the
sport of baseball faded from mental view many years ago.....
These new days of "sport" are not like the olde......
If I were Joe Torre, the current New York Yankee team
manager, I would just close out my contract and enjoy my
life, in the forthcoming years......This poor guy had "done
his thing"......He is, in the eyes of many, a hero......He has
brought the Yankee team into the World Series Play Off
Games for year after year.......He has done his best with
the "talent" that has been hired by others......"Talent" who
get paid millions of dollars a year, if they win or lose.....
These days a "manager" can do but so much.......
Hey Joe, just walk off into the sunset.....George and Hank
(Steinbrenner) will hire someone else......If the new guy
does not work out, then maybe they will pay you the "good"
money to yell at some "overpaid, pompous playboy" that
plays baseball in the daytime, again.......At least you will get
a few good years of vacation out of it.......Pumps

Media Matters
Media Matters for America is a web site that comments
daily on what is said on the radio......To a more finite
point only what is on "conservative radio".....And, while
they say that they are not political, politics appears to
be their main topic......(Must be some legal reason for
this, I suspect.).......
Well after visiting their site and reading their
commentary, for the past three month or so, I have
come to a conclusion.......The are using an olde Butcher's
trick......Which is........You keep on regrinding the olde
sausage meat in the hopes it will taste better when
devoured......Boy to they regrind and regrind and
re-hash and re-hash.....Pumps

write a letter to this PO Box in some part of the world
and join the battle for "cash".)........
Well it appears that we are now in the age of "political

the "garbage man" a "sanitary engineer" and a "salesperson"

Chinese Cookbooks
Many years ago I purchased some Chinese cookbooks
which were dual language, Chinese and English, printed
in Hong Kong.......I suspect Hong Kong was still under
British rule at the time......
The books were well printed and produced by a
Chinese food company.......They have held up well over
the years......Well.......
I brought them into my local Chinese take-out restaurant
and gave them the cookbooks today......
Needless to say, the young lady, who is Chinese, was
impressed with the new recipes along with the manager
of the "take-out"........He wanted to know if I had gone
to Hong Kong to buy the books....."Nope," I said, "I bought
them at Costco"......
Needless to say, it was a fun day at the Chinese take-out......

With the "above" in mind, where does it say a teacher
can use his "ass" to paint a picture and say it is "the
freedom of speech?".........To me "speech" means use
of the facial orifice and not the use of the rectal orifice.....
Where in the course of American legal history did we
lose sight of "speech" being verbal and "press" being
printed word?.......Are there people trying to tell me
that Judges can not "read"?.......Pumps

Highway Safety
Here in the State of Virginia, the state has published a
list of safety procedures when operating a vehicle......
Buckle up
Avoid distractions
Share the road
Drive drug & alcohol free
Obey speed limits
Duh.......With the exception of the first item listed,
buckle up, I was taught the rest in driving school
before even taking a test and getting a driver's
license.......(Back in the pre-seat belt days, every
one did not drive a car which was 50% plastic and
the top speed limit was only 35mph.).....
These safety procedures, some how, leads me to
believe that the State did not teach it's young
pupils well enough in the first place......Now they
are trying to play "catch up" with a whole bunch
of drivers that they taught badly.....
You drive the way you were taught from "day one".....

one did not drive a car which was 50% plastic and
the top speed limit was only 35mph.).....
These safety procedures, some how, leads me to
believe that the State did not teach it's young
pupils well enough in the first place......Now they
are trying to play "catch up" with a whole bunch
of drivers that they taught badly.....
You drive the way you were taught from "day one".....

Peaceful Pines Porch
It is nice to sit in an enclosed, screened, porch......Also
olde people do not need bug bites.......
Being an olde "stoop sitter", in my younger days, the
experience is the same.......Whether you are sitting on
a "stoop" on a New York City "brownstone" type
apartment building or wooden porch in Jabunyaville
makes no matter, watching people is "just" interesting......
This "watching of people" is a dying art.....Remember,
just watching someone really has no adverse effect
on anything or anybody........Unless, the person being
watched does not want to be "watched".......
It seems that the USA now has one designated day for
"stoop sitting"......It is for the purpose of reducing
crime and getting to know your neighbors........All this
effort just seems like another "Grandpa did that"
kind of thing......
Grab a soda or beer and a chair, and sit outside for
a while, in the front of your house.....What are YOU
afraid of?......Pumps
