Out Of Context
Today, in the world of politics, everybody's spoken word
is being taken "out of context"......
It is very simple to do......All one has to do is just extract
a few words or a phrase form a paragraph and "change
its true meaning".......
When this "change" is done verbally no one can notice......
But in print it is recognizable........The newspaper editor
must use graphic symbols, for example.....".....(......B......)....
This is to denote that the quotation is starting in the middle
of a phrase or sentence......
"(T)hey each had a buck and a quarter".......To some this
statement will reflect equality but in reality the full
poem means something entirely different.....
Jack and Jill went up the hill
They each had a buck and a quarter
Jill came down with two and a half
They did not go up for water

"Well You Promised!"
Have you noticed that people, bosses, politicians and
even friends want someone to "commit" to the exact
time and date a "project" or "job" will be finished.....
If you buy a house, that will be built to your exact
specifications, you want to know when to order the
moving truck......Even though it may be 3 to 6 months
away.......Everybody wants to know the exact day and
time the Iraq war will end.......How stupid.......
A lot of this is due to the change in society.....Today a
woman can give birth "by Cesarean Section" and know
the exact time and date she will give birth to her child....
But there are some events humans can not control but
"they" think for some reason "they" can.......
All these requests for "exactness" has resulted in people
lying to each other.......What is worse is that people are
expecting and tolerate these lies.......It seems to be some
kind of game......
What ever happened to the truth and the acceptance of
the words, "Honestly, I do not know."......Pumps

Cat Woman Of Peaceful Pines
A few doors down the cul-de-sac, there is an elderly
woman, who's husband died a year or so ago, that
has a lot of cats.....
The cats do not live in HER house......They live outside.....
On her back porch she has a "cat house".....This is
for the comfort and night time use of her adopted
creatures.......
However during the day, a cat must do its thing....It
is a hunter by design and therefore goes off into the
outer confines of the cul-de-sac in search of "game".....
Birds......
To do "their thing" the cats must cross property
lines of other residents in the cul-de-sac......Well
there are some complainers......These complainers,
as to the movements of the cats, are from people
who have lived in the same neighborhood, with this
senior citizen, for the past 25 years........
So amongst this cadre of "original settlers" to
Peaceful Pines, it has come down to, "Your cats do
"this" on my car" vs. "My cats do not - they are
nice cats".......
By the way, the cats DO IT, but who in their right
mind wants to cause a problem with a 25 year old
neighbor in Peaceful Pines.......Pumps

Peaceful Pines, Jabunyaville, USA
For some over 850 blogs, my two avid readers, have come
to learn that I live in a make believe town of Jabunyaville,
which is a suburb of Richmond, Virginia.....They also know
that I live in a cul de sac.......
Well last week the good olde people who live in Peaceful
Pines, a Florida cul de sac, appeared on the Dr. Phil Show....
I just love the name so.....I am going to call my cul de sac,
Peaceful Pines, in the make believe city of Jabunyaville.....
Since I am having trouble "bitching" about problems, after
850 blogs, it may be time to just report the doings of
Peaceful Pines occasionally......
So perhaps, tomorrow, we may blog on the "Cat Woman"....

The HR Clinton Has Sailed
Right on schedule Hillary Rodham Clinton has opened the
2008 Presidential Election Campaign......For two hours
on this Sunday morning she sat in front of a bookcase, after
a few hours in hair and makeup, to talk on 5 TV shows.....
She talked, into the same camera, in about 15 minute
intervals, for programs on the "air" from 9AM to 11AM.....
Her "taped" sessions started at 8AM and concluded at
10AM.......
It seems that the TV people "worked" around her schedule....
She not theirs........I suspect her whole life has been that
way, and will continue to be......Elected president or not.....
With all her, "When I am president attitude", can you
imagine what she will be like if she does not get the job?......

Quotation Marks
It seems that a young lady and student of language has a

She does not like the destruction of the English language
by the "mis-use" of quotation marks......She has a right........
When I worked in the International Cable (Western Union)
type business in my youth everyone tried to save a
dollar by using words or letters which were only five
characters long......If you used six you where charged for
two words.....(21 words, "night letter rate" = $2.89 cents)
Today's kids text message back and forth with their own
code just like my days with the "Cable" company.......
In its true form language exists in the dictionary.....People
of all shapes, sizes and origin change it to "suit" their
personal needs......It has been going on for years......
In this age of "internet conversations" people use the
quotation mark to "highlight" a statement or an
opinion......It just takes too much time to change the "font"
on your computer to make the same "point"......
This young woman has a choice.....Publish a book with
no quotation marks using correct English or publish a
book with people using "stupid" quotation marks when
they are not warranted.......Guess which book will
sell the most copies......Pumps

The Computer
There is one thing that I found out about the computer is
that everything you can learn about it is helpful.......As a
70 year old something, I am amazed that younger people
in their 40's and 50's have yet to grasp the little bit of
technology needed to use one.......
Getting the knowledge to use a computer, to what ever
level you want to achieve, is a "win one - lose one" deal.....
For every piece of knowledge you gain in the use of a
computer, you must be willing to make a mistake and
then have the desire to correct it......."No pain - no gain".....
It is as simple as that........
I am convinced that the people who either complain or
do not use computers are afraid of "rejection"......Their
egos just can not take their "lack of knowledge" required
by a new "tool".......
After some 6 years on this thing, I am not great, but I
do know the difference between a URL and a PDF....Pumps
that everything you can learn about it is helpful.......As a

Good Olde Dr. Phil
Here we are a nation of 3 million people and Dr. Phil
has the ability to find the "chosen few" to be on TV.
And what do the other 2 million people do? They watch......
Every afternoon, people watch the TV to see and
hear about the problems of other people......Who by
the way were watching Dr. Phil six months ago......
It seems that an all expenses paid trip to Hollywood,
fancy hotel rooms, expensive dinners will invite a few
dysfunctional types to go on a TV camera to tell their
story.......This of course is for the pure enjoyment of
other dysfunctional types........
One thing is for certain, Dr. Phil is now rich and famous.......
The person or persons on this TV show have a video
recording of their 15 minutes of fame.......And the
rest of the dysfunctional people watching do not
feel as dysfunctional as they once thought......Pumps

Never Rode A School Bus
Here I am at the age of 72 and I have finally come to the
conclusion that I never, ever rode on a public "yellow"
type school bus.......Did I miss anything?......
Back in the "early" days there were only two "grades"
of schools.......Grammar and High.......None of this
Middle School or Junior High stuff......
To Grammar School I walked every day......Winter,
Spring and Fall.......Warm or cold......
To High School, in my freshman year, it was a public
transportation bus......And in those days, you bought
a "Bus Pass"......With some books and a "bus pass"
the world was yours.......The "pass" was even good
on the New York City subway system, if you needed
it get to school.......
For the last three years of High School......It was 100%
"subway" with a 1/2 mile walk to and from it each
day.......And in those days, on the "subway" you would
ride between the cars on a hot summer's day......There
was no air conditioning in a subway car......Just a few
overhead, "unprotected" ceiling fans.....(Which you did
not touch.).......And, windows that you COULD open......
It was amazing how for 12 years of schooling, "one"
managed to go and return home without incident.......
May God help today's children if the "yellow" bus
stops to short at an intersection........Pumps

I'm Confused
Just a few years after the end of WWII, their arose a
"counter culture" in the Greenwich Village section of
New York City, and I expect in many other major cities
in the United States......The name for the individuals
in this "counter culture" was "Bohemian"......
A generation later if you belonged to a "counter culture"
movement, you were called a "Hippie".......
I really do not know what the "counter culture" people
call themselves today, and that is reason for my
confusion.......The only word I hear "bandied" about
these days is "Radical"......
All these groups have sought various change in the World......
None usually occurs but when "push comes to shove"

Gas Mileage
A day or two ago I mentioned my 100 mile trip.......Well
up and back to the grocery store and bagel shopping was
exactly 160.1 miles......
With all this environmental, Global Warming crap, I
conducted the "perfect" mileage performance test of my
vehicle......"Tank up" before you leave and "tank up"
when you return, at the same gas station, at the same
pump and "stop" filling when the nozzle automatically
shuts off.......All this I did........
My olde 1998 Ford Taurus 6cyl, 2.5ltr. game me 30 miles
a gallon, on the trip......No speeding (avg 67mpg), no use
of the air conditioner and no cruise control......
This proves that if a car is properly driven it will give you
the gas mileage YOU should get.......They are being built....
Not only today but 10 years ago.......
If anyone is complaining about THEIR gas mileage, it is
because they have no interest in driving a vehicle properly....
Doing 75mph, down the left hand lane of a highway may
get you there 15-20 minutes sooner but at what cost in
gasoline......Then THEY complain.......Pumps

Once Upon A Time #25
Yep, years ago, there was only one telephone in the house.....
And once a year you got one "white" telephone book and
one "yellow" book....Those were the simple days......
Now in 2007 very few have only one telephone.......Because
there is the household wireless phone, then the pocket
cell phone and lately the "internet" telephone......
Also you may have a "local white" telephone book along
with an "area white" telephone book.......But what is
really getting me is the two "yellow" telephone books.....
You get one from your own telephone company, which
here in Jabunyaville is 2-1/2 inches thick......Then there
is the second book which is 2 inches thick......
Both books have the same information, telephone
numbers and advertisements......Both have pages and
pages of the same doctors and lawyers......
If everybody is worried about the environment why do
we need more waste of paper pulp in duplication?........
With everyone advertising on TV, Internet and what is
left of the newspapers, why two "yellow" telephone
books?.......
So how much energy can be saved in the manufacturing
and printing of only one "yellow" telephone book, in the
United States?.......I suspect a lot........Pumps

Grocery Store Pricing
Today I, left Jabunyaville and, travelled some 100
miles away to buy a decent "bagel".....Yes, they do
exist in Virginia......
I also decided to stop and shop in one of the States's
most expensive grocery chain stores.......I do this
in order to "shock" myself and to prove that shopping
in WalMart or a "salvage" store is worth every penny
that I save.......
Their regular price for an imported bottle of curry
sauce was $4.49......My local chain store #1 sells
the same jar for $3.67 and a #2 chain sells it for $2.99.....
My local stores are also at regular price......
The town I went to for my bagels is a wealthy town......
Looking at the price of their groceries no wonder the
"rich" complain that they do not have any money......
I guess "frugality" is only taught to the "poor"....Pumps

In order to fight Global Warming, some Australian has
come up with a "novel" idea......This young "baby boomer"
type wants business offices to use writing pens that
use refillable ink.......Duh......
What ever happened to the Shaffer, Waterman and
Parker fountain pens......Remember them.......They
had a little lever on the side which compressed a
rubber bladder inside and "loaded" the pen with
liquid ink from a bottle.......
Along came the Bic ball point pen and the young
"boomers" had no interest in a fountain pen....They
now had a "throw-away" pen.......Life became a little
more easy for them........
A message for these now "olde boomers".......If you
want to make the world "green".......Get your kids
to do it, not your grandparents......Good Luck.......

Our Little Auto Race Track
About one mile away, here in Jabunyaville, is a small
"stock car" race track.....It is only about 1/4 of a mile
long, used by amateur drivers and built in 1947 way
before the NASCAR racing craze......
When this race track was built is was almost considered
a small day trip to travel from the downtown area of
the city.....It was just a small track for the "Good Olde
Southern Boys" to have some fun.......Drivers these
days try to get some practice on Wednesday and
Thursday afternoons......Formal racing is conducted
on Friday and Saturday nights..........
Question........Why would a land developer build
a "subdivision" of houses costing better than $300,000
only 1/8 of a mile away from it?...........
Since the area has built up over the last 60 years, some
homeowners have complained about the "racing" noise
but unfortunately the race track was here first......And
the homeowners have not recourse.......Also for this
noise reason the race track can not be enlarged......
But who in their right mind will buy an expensive house
within walking distance of it?.......Someone will......
And then start to complain about the noise........Pumps

Countrywide Financial - The Gall
A top executive of this company, which will lay off some
12,000 employees soon, has the nerve to say that this is,
"The most severe time in the contemporary history of
our industry.".....His "industry" is the sub-prime
mortgage lending business......
Countrywide Financial, along with others, is one of the
main "players" in the mortgage business which has
lead to the current problems......They caused this so

12,000 employees soon, has the nerve to say that this is,
"The most severe time in the contemporary history of
our industry.".....His "industry" is the sub-prime
mortgage lending business......
Countrywide Financial, along with others, is one of the
main "players" in the mortgage business which has
lead to the current problems......They caused this so
called "severe time" and now they are crying.......

Broadband
Back in the late '90s "Broadband" was the new future to the internet, cable TV and communications......If I
remember correctly a few companies lost their "shirts"
in fiber optic ventures......Who needed "Broadband"
after the "IT Techno crash of 2000-1"......
Well those "olde" fiber optic cables are now being used
and all of a sudden there seems to be not enough of
them.......This one cable is used for TV, Pay-per-View
and Internet........Now someone on using the Internet
can have their computer, playing music, playing a game
and talking to a friend via a camera.......
Guess what?......Their ain't no more room on that fiber
optic cable in your back yard........
Do not call your local cable or Internet Provider because
they will tell you that the problem lies in YOUR COMPUTER
or HOUSEHOLD.......Not so it seems.......
Now it has "surfaced" that there is a LACK of electrical
capacity.......All that "high-speed" talk is just talk.....
There is no more room in the fiber optic cable for
EVERYONE........
Now I know why my computer works faster on Sunday
morning when everyone is in church (except me) than
at 4pm in the afternoon when the kids are out of school....

Thompson On Leno's Show
The one common denominator in this entire political
equation is NBC.....The National Broadcasting Company......
Thompson who acted on Law & Order (a NBC program)
announced his "run" for the president of the United States
on Jay Leno's Tonight Show (a NBC program).....
This morning on the Today Show (a NBC program),
Meredith Vieira (a NBC employee) and Tim Russert (a
NBC employee) discussed the political judgement of
Mr. Thompson's appearance on the Tonight Show (a
NBC program).....
Hay, all you stupid NBC people, it was for the TV ratings.....
Ratings mean advertising money and that is what pays
your millions of dollars in yearly salary......

Spiral Fluorescent Bulbs
The heck with this Global Warming "jazz", I am getting
sick and tired of paying top dollar for Chinese made
spiral fluorescent light bulbs.....
This year alone I was had three fail on me......It is one
thing that you can not use them for all lighting
purposes, but they should last longer than they do in
electric circuits which will accept them.....
When they first were manufactured, no one was buying
them, and they could be bought for under one dollar, in
some stores......Now they are up to two to three dollars,
in the same stores.......A Hungarian made incandescent
light bulb can be bought for a little as twenty-five cents......
A name brand bulb, made in China, is fifty to sixty
cents.......For an expensive fluorescent, it should last
longer than six to nine month, no matter where in the
world it is manufactured......
Like I have said many times, a Chinese warranty is in
effect until the freighter, carrying the item, leaves the
Hong Kong dock.......
As a side note, one complaining customer was told to
contact a company in China to resolve her consumer
problem by the item's importer.......My point is
made........Pumps

Our Cul de Sac
For the last 6 months, or so, there has been a vacant
house in our "cul de sac"......No more......
While the house has been converted from a private
dwelling to a "rental property", it is once again
occupied.......A good thing to......Vacant houses can
breed trouble.......
Living here in Jabunyaville, the "make-up" of our
little piece of the world now consists of 4 Redneck,
1 Yankee, 1 Afro-American and 1 Hispanic, families......
It remindes me of my youth in New York City......
Our commonalty is that we all "do not have a pot
to piss in".......But that's America........Pumps

Slowcooker Frozen Entrees
I own three slowcookers......One each, small, medium and
large.....Over the course of several years I have learned how
to use this kitchen appliance......They are great for certain
"combination" type dishes, stews, chillies etc......Best
of all you can enhanced taste and flavor out of a cheap
piece of beef, pork or chicken......
Well it seems that two food companies are marketing
frozen entrees for the slowcooker.....Just open the bag,
remove savory seasoning sauce, defrost it, and place it
in a "cooker" with water and the contents of the frozen
package and "voila" -- a meal.....
I am fully aware that the "food" chemists working in the
large corporations do not want to offend the taste of
their customers......So corporate food has a tendency to
be "bland".......
But give me a break......For the exorbitant price one
has to pay for this package of frozen crap, it is not worth
the labor to open the bag in the first place......
One can do a lot better with a cheap piece of meat, a
package of frozen mixed vegetables and a can of broth....
At least "you" know what "you" are putting into the
pot.......Pumps

It is my understanding that in the Chinese language,
voice inflection, can change the meaning of a word....
In the English language, there exists the phrase
"Excuse me".......It use to be " Excuse me PLEASE",
but the third word seems to have dissolved in to
the voids of history.......
So "Excuse me", the way I look at it, is the first
phrase in the English language that can be modified,
by one's intent, due to voice inflection......
If two shopping carts meet in a supermarket or
"big box" store, one can hear the words, "Excuse me"....
With proper voice inflection, this means, "May I
pass"......(Remember now no one uses the word
"please" anymore)......
Or when two shopping carts meet, one can hear
the words, "EXCUSE ME"......Meaning, via voice
inflection, that YOU ARE IN MT WAY----MOVE
YOUR BUTT......
