200 Hot Dogs

This is a story of successful business management......

Some thirty years ago I had the privilege to know a man
that only sold 200 hot dogs a day......He was an ex-New York
City school teacher who left the "daily grind" to sell hot dogs,
with his road side cart, in Vermont.......His business
philosophy was to each day bring to his cart only 200 hot
dogs and fresh fix'ins......When he sold the 200 he closed up
his cart and went home.......(I should mention that his cart
was on a well traveled "truckers route".)........

He would "open" about 11AM........Closing time could be as
early as 1PM or as late as 4PM, depending on the 200.......
When asked why he did not want to sell more, he told me
that, it would cost him more time and money.....His profit
margin would be less.......

A lot of modern companies have lost sight of this simple
business principle.....Selling more does not mean you make
more money because it takes more people, wages, insurance,
compensation to do so.......Making something larger, with
an incorrect business model, does not make things "better"....

By the way, his hot dogs were GREAT..........Pumps
