Maple Syrup
A few days ago, NBC TV did a news story on "climate
change" and maple syrup in Vermont.......I suspect who
ever wrote the story for the "news reader" to read
never stepped food on Vermont soil.....
The story's purpose was to connect "climate change"
with reduced maple syrup production this season......
The maple syrup output has always varied from year
to year due to the flow of maple tree sap as a result of
Spring warming temperatures......The warming
temperatures also have an effect on the "grade" of syrup.....
The story also mentioned that the "farmers" always
tapped their trees on the first Tuesday in March.....Wrong.....
Every farmer is at a Town Meeting Day on the first Tuesday
voting on the tax rate and for Town Constable, Fence Viewer
and Weigher of Coal.......
The olde farmer which was interviewed did not seem to
mind the weather too much......He got 1,000 gallons last
year and only expected 700 gallons this year......But like
in baseball, "There is always next year"......Maybe 1,300
gallons.......
(I miss boiling my own sap......Made a quart once, for the
kids and their pancakes.)....Pumps
